History

The village was founded in the spring of 1825 by Olov Jönsson and Halvar Persson, who came from Hede and Långå respectively. They settled here, where the village of Ransundet lies today, because of the fishing and hunting the area offered, as well as fairly good summer grazing for the cows. At first, before any houses had been built, their only shelter from the weather was a roughly hewn spruce.

Today the village consists of five large farms: Pelles, Jens, Påles, Bygget and Mattes. At most, about 40 people have lived in the village year-round. Today there are five permanent residents.

Easter Eve fishing competition

Every year on Easter Eve, Gunnar Myhr from Hede organises an ice-fishing competition on one of the lakes within the Ransundet FVO. Gunnar has run the competition since 1982, and it is very popular with everyone who comes. The winner receives a challenge trophy engraved with their name and the year. Everyone who has caught a fish usually gets to choose a prize from the prize table, which is made up of all kinds of things donated to the competition by individuals and businesses. Usually around 50 snowmobiles turn up.
